Valuable lesson this week

I discovered once again that wikis do take maintenance on the part of the organizer or creator.  Members are not always versed in creating pages, posting items, and are not always as disciplined as I would like.    Blogs do require attention but as the sole developer and writer, blogs do retain a consistency.

Responses for FDT-108-HRDL1

Following are responses to an assignment in a class I took with Saint Leo University, Developing & Teaching Blended FDT-108-HRDL1.

1.   How long did it take to create the blog? About 2 hours to create the basic template, but I never finish.  It is a work in progress.

2.   Was the blog easy to set up? For me yes, but for a novice in technology it requires some learning.

3.   What were some of the challenges you encountered and how did you overcome these challenges?  Originally I had to learn to embed videos, add graphics, and grasp the layout and how it would flow for students visiting the blog.

4.   What questions do you still have about blogs?  How effective are blogs at helping students to learn objectives?  The blogging assignments need to be more than glamorous discussion threads or online essays and research papers. They need to be directly connected in a way that students can see how they support the learning objectives.

5.   What are two instructional strategies you will use in your blog for your blended course? 1.  Collaborative writing by have students blog in pairs or triads. It would teach collaboration and provide expanded viewpoints.  2.  I have created webquests originating from the blog.  I would like to have students create their own webquests for fellow students to explore.
